I have Roomba 780 and Mint 5200 (see my other review). I have used both for more than half year. Here are my experiences:
Roomba 780 is very easy to use. Push start button, it goes. It can vacuum a room without using virtual wall or lighthouse. But if you want to run it in a specific area, virtual wall works like a closed door or wall. Roomba will not pass virtual wall. If you want to vacuum multiple rooms at once, placing lighthouse at different area will virtually devide the area into subareas. Roomba will first finish the 1st area, then move onto the next one.
Pro's:
- It is great that you can program the date/time you want it to run.
- It starts by itself at the programed date/time and goes back to the charging dock automatically after cleaning.
- It vacuums the room effectively. Hair, bread crumbs all get sucked into the vacuum.
- Good battery power to vacuum a large area.
Con's:
- As it is a vacuum, it is noisy. I cannot... Read more

Right out of the box it worked.. ( I love that it comes partially charged as we all want to SEE IT DO ITS THING )
First lets describe that is comes fully assembled.. and is packed with extra parts.. I was concerned when I opened it that I had to assemble but Iroomba just sent along some extras to make my ownership of Roomba more pleasant.
... It comes w 2 virtual walls/ lighthouses and a remote control ( no batteries included)..
A DVD w the owners manual and ref to the videos that are ONLINE but not on the DVD
Charging station and a large chargers connection
A few cleaning tools for the brushes and 2 extra hepa filters.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?) Our upright vacuum is the Dyson Purple PetHair model which does a terrific job, but it's heavy and noisy. Our (3) cats hate that dreaded thing, and I've always hated vacuuming, but that is another story.
I was thrilled to recently get the iRobot Roomba 780 model. (We've named her Roxy.) I admit I was a bit skeptical about how good this device would be, and wondered if it was just some pretty expensive gadget. After (2) weeks and using it about 6 times so far, I am an iRobot Roomba lover. I also demonstrated it for our adult kids who are adding it to the wish lists. It's pretty darn awesome. Even the cats are pretty fascinated with it, as it's very quiet compared to to the Dyson vacuum.
The iRobot 780 comes with a charging "Home Base Dock", and (2) small "Virtual Lighthouse" units (each viritual lighthouse uses (2) C batteries). The Virtual lighthouses can be used to contain the iRobot to a specific area, in case you have a large open floorplan like we do... Read more
