Said vacuum didn't pick up dirt very well, clogged easily (both the hose to the dirt compartment and the area around the 'filter' at the top of the compartment). It also didn't have a hose. However, until I used this Dirt Devil on my carpet, I had no idea just how bad it was.
This vacuum picks up dirt better than the last bagged vacuum I owned. I learned this in an unfortunate way; skipping over the instructions on how to empty it, I ended up dumping the contents partly on my hand. Those contents were a very thin, almost rice-like powder, nothing like what my previous vacuums had picked up. Best of all, when I ran it over some loose cat litter, it didn't spit anything back out at me like many vacuums. The hose is generous with several nifty attachments (I haven't used them all but soon will) and the sucking power is strong enough to yank my hands towards the... Read more

Let me start off by saying that this is my second Dirt Devil. The first one I purchased at Walmart for around $45 or so some 5 years ago. Oh, it's still running, I simply wore it out. It's been relegated to garage duty - sort of a forced retirement. LOL
Like most of us, I did a fair amount of research into vacuums. My criterion was that I didn't want to spend a lot of cash, less that $100, but at the same time, I didn't want a piece of junk either. Not having a vacuum of another brand for a long time really doesn't give me the right to compare it with anything else out there - except to my previous Dirt Devil.
The price was right, less than $100. It had the features I was looking for and a brand name that I did have some experience with. When I read these reviews, I always tell myself that we're human, with different tastes, needs and the like... Read more

I think this product was created to compete with the likes of the much-more-expensive Dysons, which it actually does surprisingly well!
The construction feels noticeably cheaper than a Dyson, and the assembly instructions were a bit weird (don't get freaked out if you can't find the "shorter" screw they mentioned, there's only two screws and they're both the same size), but the suction was strong, the accessories and capabilities are similar to the Dyson and it features the same "Cyclonic Bagless Upright" capabilities.
If you're in the market for a vacuum a little like a Dyson, more cheaply made, but at a fraction of the price, this thing will do you well!
