So far so good!, December 31, 2011 By This review is from: Oreck XL Forever Gold Vacuum (Kitchen) I did a lot of research to try to find a good vacuum for pets that was also quiet and light. The Oreck vacuums are more expensive than some of the others with good reviews, but Oreck was THE ONLY vacuum that came with a lifetime warranty. That says a lot. Combine that with the plentiful service stores and four years of free annual maintenance/checks and I think this vacuum is worth the price tag. So far, it does great on the pet hair, is incredibly easy to use and nearly vacuums the floors all by itself! With the numerous stores, this is the one item I would recommend buying in person rather than online. We got the same price, had 8 extra bags thrown in for free, and were able to take it home immediately with a 30 day trial/money back guarantee. I do not plan to take mine back after 30 days!

We had been using a Hoover that cost less than $200 before that which wasn't very old and seemed to work well, though it is heavy to move around. Roommate moved who owned Hoover, I needed a new one, and decided to get a high quality one this time. I have a cat and a dog so that matters. The 1st time I vacuumed the whole house, the bag was about 1/3 full with dirt and stuff the Hoover was mostly leaving behind. I have used it a couple more times since and not gotten nearly as much in the bag on these times.
It is so lightwt it is really easy to use, except I have a couple rooms with rather thick carpet and it is hard to push forward on these, though easy to pull back. By dropping the handle lower I can push it more easily. If you have lots of very thick carpet this probably wouldnt be a good choice of vacuum. Most of my house is hardwood floor or tile... Read more

Just some background and why I bought the Oreck-My in home central vac system finally busted (I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE EVER GET A CENTRAL VAC SYSTEM IN THEIR HOME IT IS GARBAGE AND THE TUBE MARKS UP THE CORNERS OF THE WALLS WHEN YOU USE IT!!! IT CAME WITH THE HOUSE I BOUGHT BUT WHENEVER YOU ARE LOOKING AT A HOME TO BUY DON'T LET THEM MAKE A BIG DEAL ABOUT THE CENTRAL VAC SYSTEM TO YOU!!!!)
Anyhow, I purchased the XL Gold Forever unit to replace my lame central vac system and wow I should have done this sooner! I knew how good it was but I was just trying to prolong the purchase.
